ST. NAUM MONASTERY – A MAGICAL LINKING OF NATURE, HISTORY AND THE CHURCH
(BOAT TRIP)
Without doubts, St. Naum monastery is one miraculous place, located near the springs of the river Crn Drim (river that flows out of the lake at the town of Struga, on the opposite side of Lake Ohrid), this monastic complex lies in strongly protected area, as a part of National Park Galicica. Its crystal clear spring water looks like a mirror, reflecting both vegetation from the surroundings and the high peaks of the beautiful mountain behind.
Built on the rocky hill right above the lake, the monastery of St. Naum is one of the most beautiful pilgrimage spot in Macedonia. At the end of IX Century, St. Naum himself had chosen this noble wilderness to continue his incredible mission that served to the enlightenment of local community in the Dark Ages. He was considered to be a healer and miracle-maker, which is witnessed by several fresco paintings in the grave chapel in the church. The church itself is dedicated to the Archangels Michael and Gabriel and inside there is a unique baroque-style iconostasis from XVIII century and fresco paintings with figures wearing outfits from the end of XVIII century.
